Private: Creative & Digital Apprentice with WAA Ltd

The apprentice will be working as part of the Creative team of WAA and will be involved in helping create advertising ideas and concepts from live briefs and taking them through to delivery.

Duties to Include:

  • Contributing to conceptual thinking and coming up with creative ideas and solutions
  • Creating visuals and designs for clients, working on live briefs
  • Ensuring creative work is completed to the highest standard

WWA is looking for a creative individual with a flair for design and a keen interest in advertising. The apprentice must have a can-do attitude and be able to think independently and work within a team.Duties and Responsibilities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Shadowing and working with our Creative team to gain experience and knowledge
  • Contributing to conceptual thinking and coming up with creative ideas and solutions
  • Creating visuals and designs for clients, working on live briefs
  • Presenting ideas and designs back to the client services team
  • Ensuring creative work is completed to the highest standard
  • Working with artwork to understand the print/digital process
  • Working with production to understand the production process
  • General administration duties to support the team
  • Research into current clients, market trends and competitors
  • Contributing ideas and insights
  • Taking a proactive approach to self-development
  • Upholding company standards, ensuring business professionalism and reputation for excellence

Skills Required  

The successful candidate will be a creative individual with a flair for design and a keen interest in advertising. A familiarisation with the following software is helpful: the Adobe suite of inDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop alongside Dreamweaver and Flash.

In addition, they will:

  • Be flexible and creative when working to a brief
  • Have a high attention to detail
  • Be IT competent (can use Microsoft word, excel, power point)
  • Have an ability to understand, convey and present ideas
  • Be organised, hard working and dedicated
  • Be proactive and positive with a ‘can do’ attitude and an ability to multi-task
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as the role will require direct contact with customers and suppliers
  • Have excellent time-management skills
  • Be able to work alone or with a team
  • Be able to work well under pressure and is able to work supervised and unsupervised.
  • Be able to take responsibility for their work.

The successful candidate will be required to have an opinion on advertising, be able to come up with multiple solutions and be able to take constructive feedback on their work.

Qualifications Required 

GCSE Grade C or above in English, Maths and ICT -

A familiarisation with some of the Adobe suite software packages would be useful: Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop along with Dreamweaver and Flash.

Important Other Information

  • The position is sometimes very busy and therefore requires someone who can think quickly and use their common sense. All of the WAA team are very hardworking, honest, loyal, reliable and happy, all of the qualities which we would hope the successful applicant would have.
  • As this position is the most junior within the company the apprentice will be expected to help out with whatever a busy company needs people to do to run our business.  This may not mean sitting designing or researching every hour of every day.
  • The hours of work are between 9.00 and 5.00pm and the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible to meet deadlines.

The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st October 2012 is £2.65 per hour.  This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship.  Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age.

Future Prospects

Potential progression onto a Higher Apprenticeship and continued employment within this sector, ideally with WAA.

Working Week: Monday to Friday 37 Hours

Weekly Wage: £ 98.05
